The Punjab government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking to quash the contempt notice issued against Chief Secretary KAP Sinha. The matter is related to an affidavit concerning the payment of arrears for DA and DR.

High court contempt notice over affidavit

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had issued the notice after taking prima facie cognizance of incorrect information provided in the affidavit regarding the status of an SLP. A civil contempt case related to this matter is already pending in the High Court.

Government cites registry defects

According to the Punjab government, the Supreme Court registry pointed out new defects in the SLP following a hearing, which led to this situation.
