The Supreme Court on Tuesday initiated contempt action against the BMC commissioner over the failure to remove encroachments from land designated for a BEST bus station in Borivali, Mumbai. The court issued a show-cause notice to the commissioner.

The bench hearing the case comprised Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V. Mohana. The court took this step due to the non-compliance with its order within the stipulated time frame.

Previous court directives and deadlines

Earlier on August 13, 2025, the Supreme Court had directed a private developer to hand over the possession of this land to the BMC. According to the scheduled plan, the encroachments from the land were to be removed by November 13, 2025, but this was not done.
