A new proposal regarding the NEET-PG and NEET SS examinations has been presented in the Supreme Court. The National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences informed the court on November 3, 2026, that the percentile system in the examination will be replaced by a rank-based merit system.
NMC approval and official communication
The National Medical Commission has approved this proposal to remove the percentile-based eligibility limit. The secretary of the NMC shared this information by writing a letter to the Directorate General of Health Services in this regard.
Earlier in the year 2023, the NBEMS had reduced the qualifying percentile of NEET-PG to zero. In the recent NEET-PG 2026 results, a total of 2,63,535 candidates have qualified.
