All India Muslim Jamaat National President Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi has claimed to issue fatwas regarding the cases of Omar Abdullah and Sara Khan, also referred to as Sara Ali. According to Bareilly-based Maulana Razvi, the marriage of Omar Abdullah and Nidhi Razdan has been described as being against Sharia.

Reactions from clerics and legal status of fatwas

Additionally, Sara Ali visiting the Kedarnath temple and performing worship has also been termed a sin in Islam. These claims and statements by Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi have also drawn reactions from other clerics.

National Ulema Parliament President Dr. Maulana Kalbe Rusaid Rizvi has raised serious questions over the tradition of issuing unasked fatwas. According to Indian law and clear rules of the Supreme Court, fatwas have no legal recognition or binding nature in the country.

However, amidst this entire sequence of events, it is not clear whether any formal clarification or repentance has actually been made by Sara Ali Khan or Omar Abdullah. At the same time, apart from Maulana Razvi's claims, no other official stance from other religious organizations has come to light regarding these fatwas.
