The Democratic Party has secured majorities in both the House of Representatives and the Senate in the US midterm elections. Following the election results, President Donald Trump stated in an interview with The New York Times that he was not the candidate.
Inflation and the war with Iran are being considered major reasons for the defeat of the Republican Party. During the election campaign, President Trump appealed for votes in his own name 47 times.
Impact of support and local results
In Texas, Ken Paxton and in South Carolina, Darlin Graham lost the election despite Trump's support. However, in Florida, Kathy Castor retained her seat and Democrats received about 16 percentage points more votes in her constituency.
Debate over victory reasons
Debate continues within the party over whether the real reason for the Democratic Party's victory was opposition to the party or the support of left-wing voters.
