A major accident occurred on Thursday night at Bhalla Engineers scrap godown located on Amloh Road in Mandi Gobindgarh, Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab. A powerful explosion took place suddenly while an old tar tanker was being cut using a gas cutter.

Owner dies on spot

Godown owner Daljeet Kumar Bhalla died on the spot in the incident. Meanwhile, four workers identified as Barjesh, Dashrath Yadav, Poonam Devi, and Inder Kumar sustained serious injuries.

All the injured persons were immediately taken to the civil hospital in Mandi Gobindgarh. Due to their critical condition, they were subsequently referred to Chandigarh and Patiala.

Investigation and safety status

Preliminary investigation revealed that the specific gas that caused the explosion inside the tanker has not yet been confirmed. According to the fire department, the godown did not possess a fire NOC.
