Former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel visited Raipur Central Jail on November 6, 2026, to meet jailed Congress leader Ramgopal Agarwal. The two leaders spoke for about 10 minutes during the visit.

ED allegations and legal status

Ramgopal Agarwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on August 11 in connection with an investigation into the Chhattisgarh liquor scam. The ED claims that under his supervision, 860 to 880 crore rupees collected from a liquor syndicate were sent to the Congress office, Rajiv Bhavan, and 72 crore rupees were under his control. Defence counsel maintains that his name does not feature in any FIR.

Ramgopal Agarwal faces a total of six registered cases, having secured bail in two while four cases remain pending. Authorities have provisionally attached two of his immovable properties valued at 9.06 crore rupees in connection with the case.
