Chief of Defence Staff General NS Raja Subramani has announced a two-year extension to the tenure of Agniveers. Following this decision, the total service period for Agniveers has increased from four years to six years.

Agnipath scheme details and retention

The Agnipath scheme was launched in the year 2022. Under this scheme, a provision has been set to retain a maximum of 25 percent of Agniveers from each batch on a permanent basis after the completion of their service.

Earlier, the Indian Air Force had decided to retain 712 recruits out of 2,850 from its first Agniveer Vayu batch in service.
