The Bombay High Court has directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to re-upload actor Dia Mirza's Diwali awareness video on its social media handles. The civic body had previously removed the video following objections raised by the Bharatiya Janata Party. The video featured an appeal to burn green crackers and avoid bursting them on public roads.

Court expresses displeasure over selective removal

During the court proceedings, a bench comprising Justices Girish Kulkarni and Neela Gokhale expressed deep displeasure over remarks made by leaders. The court also took note of the fact that the BMC has retained videos featuring Madhuri Dixit, Nishigandha Wad, and Ajinkya Rahane on its social media accounts.

BJP had raised strong objections

Prior to this, BJP Mumbai President Amit Satam had strongly objected to Dia Mirza's video and issued statements regarding the manner of celebrating the festival. Following the court's fresh directives in the matter, the BMC is now required to share the video back on the platform.
