A mystery surrounding a pink rock found in 2022 at the Teghaza salt flats in the Mali region of the Sahara Desert has been resolved. Researchers, with the help of NASA, have confirmed that the approximately 800-gram stone is actually a meteorite from Mars.
Named Teghaza 001
According to scientific research, this unique meteorite has been named Teghaza 001. Its age has been estimated to be more than 4.1 billion years old.
The study also revealed that the oxygen isotopes present in this rock directly match those of Mars. In addition, zircon crystals were also found in it.
Origin and water signs
However, scientists clarified that the exact original location of this rock on Mars has not yet been identified. Furthermore, finding signs of water in it does not mean that life ever existed there.
