American tourists outnumbered Indian visitors to Nepal in October 2026, according to data released by the Nepal Tourism Board.

The data shows that 17,437 tourists arrived in Nepal from the United States during October 2026. In the same period, the number of visitors from India stood at 12,097, marking a 30 percent decline in Indian arrivals compared to October of the previous year.

Arrivals from China and global totals

China ranked third with 11,695 tourist arrivals in October 2026. According to the Nepal Tourism Board, a total of over 1.32 lakh foreign tourists visited Nepal during the month.

Between January and October 2026, a total of 9,98,734 foreign tourists arrived in Nepal.

Reasons for changing tourist trends

Floods and landslides in August are considered a major reason for the decline in Indian tourist numbers. Meanwhile, the increase in US tourist arrivals is attributed to a growing interest in trekking and the arrival of people of Nepali origin for festivals.
