Twenty-four National Conference MLAs in Jammu and Kashmir have signalled dissent against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. On Friday, 18 MLAs attended a meeting at Lolab MLA Qaiser Jamsheed Lone's residence in Srinagar, while six other legislators joined via video conferencing.
Demands for removal of advisor and ministers
The legislators have demanded the removal of Chief Minister's advisor Nasir Sogami and four new ministers appointed on October 27. During the meeting, it was decided to form a four-member delegation led by Nazir Ahmed Gurezi and Muzaffar Iqbal Khan. This delegation will submit a memorandum to party president Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Recently, during the cabinet expansion on October 27, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mir Saifullah, Shamima Firdous and Altaf Ahmad Wani were inducted as ministers, while Mubarak Gul was appointed as the party's general secretary by Farooq Abdullah.
Delegation to meet leadership and denial of political intent
On the other hand, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi described the meeting as merely a casual lunch gathering and claimed it was not a political meeting. The MLAs stated that they are not leaving the party, though allegations of undermining internal functioning have also emerged.
