Actors Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday. During the meeting, serious concern was raised regarding the misuse of AI and deepfake technology in the film industry.

Home Minister advises formal application and coordination

Following the meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah advised them to submit a formal written application on the matter. Additionally, the Home Minister assigned G. Kishan Reddy the responsibility of establishing coordination between the film industry and the government.

Recent cases of AI and deepfake misuse in films

Recently, several cases involving the misuse of AI have surfaced in the film world. An AI-morphed video of the song Chuttamalle, featuring Janhvi Kapoor, went viral. Furthermore, in January 2024, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police arrested Emani Naveen for creating a deepfake video of Rashmika Mandanna.
