A joint operation by the police and STF led to an encounter with a robbery accused late Sunday night in the Marmala Chaur area of Vaishali district's Sadar police station jurisdiction.

During the encirclement by police and STF, the accused opened fire, and in retaliatory action, he sustained a bullet injury to his leg.

Accused admitted to hospital

The injured accused has been identified as Raj Nandan Kumar alias Chhotu, son of Chandeshwar Rai, a resident of Dighi Kala. He has been admitted to Hajipur Sadar Hospital under police custody, where he is undergoing treatment.

Criminal history and jewellery loot involvement

According to police, around 17 cases of robbery and the Arms Act are registered against the accused in Vaishali and Samastipur. He was involved in the loot of gold, silver, and diamond jewellery worth two crore rupees from Anil Jewellers in Samastipur on 23 November 2023.

Additionally, he had escaped from the Samastipur court premises during a hearing on 9 January 2025 after his arrest. All these claims related to the incident have currently been verified based on police statements.
