The Central Industrial Security Force has implemented a major change in its administrative structure by abolishing the 56-year-old territorial command model. In its place, the force has adopted a new functional sector model.

New sectors created for specific installations

A total of 11 sectors have been created for the security of power, coal, steel, petroleum, natural gas units, government buildings, museums, monuments, seaports, and the Delhi Metro. Additionally, the Mumbai-headquartered Western Sector has been renamed the West Coast Port Sector, and the Chennai-based Southern Sector has been renamed the East Coast Port Sector.

Background of the force

In 2025, the central government designated the CISF as the nodal force for the security of seaports. Formed in 1969, the force currently has approximately 2.70 lakh personnel in service.
